Wikipedia

Macau's population is 95% China|Chinese, primarily Cantonese and some Hakka, both from nearby Guangdong Province. The remainder are of Portuguese people|Portuguese or mixed Chinese-Portuguese ancestry. Some Japanese, including descendants of Japanese Catholics who were expelled by shoguns, also live. The official languages are Portuguese language|Portuguese (especially its Portuguese Creole#Macaista Chapado|creole Patu?|Patu? or Macaista Chapado, which is almost extinct) and Mandarin Chinese, though the residents commonly speak Cantonese Chinese. English is spoken in tourist areas. Macau has only one university (University of Macau); most of its 7,700 students are from Hong Kong.
